No evidence of foul play: Police said preliminary findings do not indicate criminal activity.
MILTON, Ga. — Authorities in Milton, Georgia, said Friday that a body recovered from a pond near Mayfield Park is believed to be Nathan Smith, the 27 year old son of rapper and producer Lil Jon. Police said identification is pending confirmation from the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office, and investigators currently do not suspect foul play.
Smith, known professionally as DJ Young Slade, had been reported missing earlier this week after leaving his home on Baldwin Drive on foot without a cellphone. Local law enforcement and family members had conducted searches in the surrounding area.

The discovery comes four days after Smith went missing. Milton Police said Smith was last seen around 6 a.m. and might have been disoriented. Friends and family reported that he left the house suddenly, and officers began a coordinated search including K‑9 units and dive teams.
The case attracted widespread attention due to Smith’s public profile as a music producer and his relationship to Lil Jon, a Grammy-winning artist whose career spans decades.
Nathan Smith was an emerging artist in Atlanta’s music scene, releasing tracks under the name DJ Young Slade. He had also appeared on entertainment platforms showcasing his musical work. Authorities said the family requested privacy while the search was underway.
Experts in missing-person investigations note that adults who go missing without communication devices can create wide search areas.
“When someone leaves without a phone or wallet, it complicates locating them quickly,” said Debra Schoch, a retired FBI agent specializing in missing person cases. “Water sources and nearby parks often become priority areas for search teams.”
Mark Toner, former deputy director of the US Department of Health and Human Services’ emergency preparedness office, emphasized the importance of swift response.
“Initial hours are crucial, especially if the individual may be disoriented or experiencing a medical episode,” Toner said.
Milton Police Chief Eric Born said investigators are treating the case with sensitivity.
“Our priority is supporting the family and completing the identification process. We ask the public to respect their privacy,” Born said.
Local resident Randy Collins, whose property borders Mayfield Park, described the search efforts.
“There were officers, divers, and dogs searching the area all day. It was intense, and everyone hoped for a safe resolution,” Collins said.
Authorities are awaiting medical examiner confirmation before making official announcements. Once confirmed, police plan to close the case unless further evidence arises. Officials continue to ask anyone with relevant information to contact the Milton Police Department.
The believed discovery of Lil Jon’s son highlights the challenges of missing-person cases and the need for prompt, coordinated search efforts. As authorities work toward verification, the family and community remain focused on closure and support.
