  • The project aims to explore the cultural legacy and creative process behind the hit series Gilmore Girls.
  • The untitled book is expected to be published in Fall 2027.

LOS ANGELES — Actor and author Lauren Graham said a long-awaited Lauren Graham Gilmore Girls book being written with series creator Amy Sherman Palladino is moving forward, offering fans a new behind the scenes look at the iconic television drama more than two decades after its debut.

Graham shared the update March nine at the Los Angeles premiere of Reminders of Him, saying the project is still in early development but continuing despite both collaborators’ busy schedules.

The planned Lauren Graham Gilmore Girls book marks one of the most significant creative reunions between the actor who played Lorelai Gilmore and the writer producer who created the beloved series.

Graham said the collaboration represents a milestone in her decades-long relationship with Sherman Palladino and the show that helped define early 2000s television.

Speaking to reporters at the Los Angeles event, Graham said she never expected the partnership to evolve into a literary collaboration.

“If you had told me twenty five years ago that we would get to a place where she wants to collaborate with me, that’s a win,” Graham said.

The forthcoming book is expected to combine personal reflections, behind the scenes stories and conversations about how the series was developed.

Gilmore Girls premiered in 2000 on the WB network and ran for seven seasons before concluding in 2007. The comedy drama followed the lives of Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter Rory in the fictional Connecticut town of Stars Hollow.

Known for its rapid fire dialogue and pop culture references, the series became a defining program of early twenty first century television.

Sherman Palladino later returned to the franchise with the 2016 Netflix revival Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, which reunited much of the original cast and reintroduced the story to a new generation of viewers through streaming platforms.

Graham has previously documented her experience on the series in the 2016 memoir Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls (And Everything in Between).

She has since expanded her writing career with books including In Conclusion, Don’t Worry About It and Have I Told You This Already?

The new Lauren Graham Gilmore Girls book is expected to take a more collaborative approach, combining Graham’s perspective as an actor with Sherman Palladino’s insight as creator and showrunner.

Television historians say the project reflects the continuing cultural influence of the series, which remains widely streamed more than two decades after its premiere.

“Gilmore Girls occupies a unique place in television history,” said Emily VanDerWerff, television critic and cultural analyst at Vox Media. “Its dialogue style, mother daughter storytelling and small town setting helped shape later dramedies.”

Academic researchers also point to the show’s longevity in the streaming era.

Amanda Lotz, professor of media studies at Queensland University of Technology and author of several books on television distribution, said the enduring popularity of the series demonstrates the long term value of characterdriven storytelling.

“Programs like Gilmore Girls have gained second lives through streaming libraries,” Lotz said. “A book exploring the creative process behind the show could offer valuable insight into how television storytelling evolved during the early cable and network transition period.”

Sherman Palladino has continued to shape television in recent years through projects including the award-winning comedy The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Graham indicated the collaboration will take time as both creators continue working on separate projects.

Sherman Palladino recently traveled to London to direct a film while Graham has been filming new productions including Reminders of Him, according to the actor.

“Once we really get in the groove of hanging out together and telling our stories, it’s going to flow,” Graham said.

Entertainment industry analysts say such reflective projects often appeal strongly to long-time fan communities.

Kristin Thompson, professor emerita of film and media studies at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, said retrospective books can deepen the understanding of how popular series are produced.

“Fans are increasingly interested in the creative decisions behind the shows they love,” Thompson said. “A collaborative account from both the star and the creator could provide insights that viewers rarely see.”

The Lauren Graham Gilmore Girls book is scheduled for publication in Fall 2027, though Graham said the timeline reflects the challenge of coordinating two busy creative careers.

Sherman Palladino continues directing and developing television projects while Graham balances acting roles with her writing career. Industry observers say the extended timeline could allow the authors to incorporate extensive archival material and long form interviews into the book.

More than twenty years after Gilmore Girls first aired, the series continues to attract global audiences through streaming and fan communities.

The upcoming Lauren Graham Gilmore Girls book represents the latest chapter in the franchise’s ongoing legacy, offering readers a deeper look at the partnership between actor and creator that helped shape one of television’s most enduring dramedies.
