On Aug. 19, the Matthew Perry House shared a message from Suzanne Morrison honoring her son on his birthday. The nonprofit accompanied the tribute with an old family photograph showing Morrison feeding Perry as a baby.
Morrison reflected on the passage of time and the lasting impact of Perry’s struggles with addiction. She described her son as “sweet, loving, funny, cantankerous” and acknowledged that his battle with addiction included periods when he kept it hidden from both the public and his mother.
The tribute also focused on Perry’s determination to recover. Morrison wrote that he wanted deeply to be well, placing his personal struggle alongside his wish to support others experiencing addiction.
Perry, best known for playing Chandler Bing on Friends, died on Oct. 28, 2023, at age 54. His mother’s latest tribute centers not only on remembering him but also on the purpose he associated with his own experience of addiction.
Morrison said she continues to miss her son every day. She also recalled hearing Perry express a desire in the final days of his life to help people who were struggling with addiction.
Although Perry can no longer carry out that goal himself, Morrison said others can continue the effort with support from the community.
