‘DWTS’ Goes All-In on Mariah Carey: Start Time, Theme and Tonight’s Elimination

KEY POINT

  • “Dancing with the Stars” Week 4 airs Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 8 p.m. ET.
  • The episode is dedicated to Mariah Carey, with the remaining couples performing to songs from her catalog.
  • A fifth celebrity and professional dancer pairing will be eliminated at the conclusion of the episode.

“Dancing with the Stars” is moving into another themed round as the competition reaches Week 4. The Oct. 6 episode, officially billed as “Mariah Carey Night,” will put the spotlight on the music of the pop icon as the remaining contestants compete for another week in the ballroom.

The episode is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Oct. 6. All 12 couples still in the competition are expected to perform during the broadcast, giving each team another opportunity to impress the judges and remain in contention.

The latest episode follows “Yacht Rock Night,” which ended with the competition losing its fourth celebrity-pro pairing. Pop rock band member Taylor Hanson and professional dancer Britt Stewart were sent home after performing a foxtrot to The Doobie Brothers’ “What a Fool Believes.”

Hanson and Stewart finished their routine with a combined judges’ score of 18. Their score placed them alongside two other couples on the leaderboard: Jackson Olson and Emma Slater, and Ciara Miller and Brandon Armstrong.

Their departure reduced the field from 13 couples to 12 heading into the Mariah Carey themed episode. The latest round therefore represents the next opportunity for the remaining duos to separate themselves from the competition through their individual performances.

The theme also marks a significant change in musical direction from the previous episode. Instead of the soft rock selections featured during “Yacht Rock Night,” the Oct. 6 performances will draw from Carey’s extensive pop catalog.

For the remaining celebrities and their professional partners, the challenge will be translating familiar Carey songs into ballroom routines while competing for favorable judges’ scores and audience support.

The competition will not end with the performances alone. A fifth celebrity and professional dancer couple is scheduled to be eliminated at the end of Tuesday’s episode.

That result will determine which 11 pairings continue beyond Week 4, while another duo will see its Season 35 journey come to an end.
