Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski have separated after nine years of marriage, confirming that they have been apart for some time and believe the decision is right for their family.
The couple confirmed the development in a joint statement to PEOPLE, saying their separation has ultimately been the right move for their family unit. They also emphasized that they will remain connected, particularly as parents to their two children.
Seyfried, 40, and Sadoski, 50, married in March 2017 after meeting two years earlier while working together on the off-Broadway play The Way We Get By. They later reunited for The Last Word, where they played love interests, before beginning a real-life relationship in 2016.
Their wedding was deliberately private. Sadoski revealed on The Late Late Show with James Corden that they had eloped in the countryside with an officiant, describing the ceremony as an intimate experience shared only between the couple.
The actors have two children: daughter Nina, 9, and son Thomas Jr., 5. PEOPLE reported that the couple largely kept their family life away from public attention while living on a farm in upstate New York and supporting humanitarian work involving children affected by conflict.
Their professional lives also remained closely connected. Seyfried thanked Sadoski during her 2022 Emmy acceptance speech after winning for The Dropout, while he accompanied her to the 2023 premiere of The Crowded Room.
In January 2026, Seyfried discussed Sadoski’s support for her increasingly busy career in an interview with Vogue. She said he “sacrifices a lot” for her as she took on projects including The Testament of Ann Lee, The Housemaid and Long Bright River.
The latest development comes after years in which the pair maintained a relatively private family life. Page Six reported that it had contacted representatives for additional comment.
