KEY POINTS
The Sussexes are reportedly planning to move into a private residence outside London later this month.
Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are expected to begin school in Britain in September.
King Charles has been informed of the plans, but Harry and Meghan will remain private, non-working members of the royal family.

Prince Harry and Meghan are preparing for a significant change in their family life after reportedly deciding to move back to Britain, six years after leaving the country for North America. According to The Telegraph, the couple and their children are expected to relocate later this month.
The family is reportedly looking for a private, non-royal residence outside London. Their reported return would not represent a restoration of their former working roles, as Harry and Meghan remain private individuals after stepping away from official royal duties.
Their children are also expected to begin the next stage of their education in Britain. The Telegraph reported that seven-year-old Prince Archie and five-year-old Princess Lilibet have been enrolled in British schools for the September term.
King Charles Informed of Plans

The King is understood to welcome the possibility of spending more time with Harry, Meghan and their children on a personal and family basis. However, the reported move does not alter the Sussexes’ position as non-working members of the royal family.
The Prince and Princess of Wales were also reportedly informed of the decision.
Harry and Meghan left Britain in 2020 after stepping back from royal duties and subsequently established their main family home in California. They have since remained outside the working structure of the monarchy.
The couple are reportedly expected to retain their properties in Montecito, California, and Portugal. That means the planned British residence would become another base rather than necessarily replacing their existing homes.
Their decision also comes after a period in which Harry continued making trips to Britain for significant occasions and charitable commitments.
Security Remains a Key Issue
Security arrangements are an important part of Harry’s relationship with returning to Britain. He has previously said that he did not believe bringing his wife and children to the country was safe without police protection.

In May 2025, after losing a legal challenge concerning his UK security arrangements, Harry told the BBC that he could not see a situation at that time in which he would bring Meghan and their children back to Britain.
The latest reports do not disclose what security arrangements would apply if the family relocates.
The reported move follows a recent period of renewed contact between Harry and his family. During their July visit, King Charles and Queen Camilla hosted Harry, Meghan and their children at Highgrove House in Gloucestershire.
The meeting was significant because it marked the first time in four years that the King had seen the entire Sussex family together. Harry was also in Britain for charity-related engagements connected to the Invictus Games, the international sporting event he founded for wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans.
Harry has previously expressed a desire to repair relations with his relatives. Following his security case in 2025, he said he had forgiven members of his family and wanted reconciliation, while identifying the security dispute as a major obstacle.
A return to Britain would place Harry and Meghan geographically closer to the royal family while leaving their constitutional and working status unchanged. It could also give Archie and Lilibet an opportunity to spend more time in the country where their father’s family has its roots.
The reported move therefore represents a change in the Sussex family’s living arrangements rather than a return to official royal duties.
The reported relocation is expected to take place later this month, with the children due to begin school in September. The exact location of the family’s private residence and details of their security arrangements have not been disclosed. The couple are also expected to continue maintaining their existing homes outside Britain.
