“Dakota Johnson’s SNL Monologue Takes an Unexpected Turn as Taylor Swift Joins Her on Stage”

KEY POINT

  • Taylor Swift unexpectedly joined Dakota Johnson during her October 3 SNL opening monologue.
  • Johnson joked about her relationships with musicians before introducing Swift as her “literal therapist.”
  • Swift later helped celebrate Johnson’s birthday with a cake during the show’s goodnights.

Dakota Johnson turned her Saturday Night Live return into a playful discussion of her much publicized dating history, only for Taylor Swift to unexpectedly join the conversation.

Johnson hosted the October 3 episode for the third time and opened by referencing two public breakups with musicians since her previous hosting appearance in 2024. She then pivoted from her personal life to her new film Verity, joking that the movie’s psychosexual thriller premise had something in common with dating musicians.

Johnson continued by joking that musicians regularly end up in her direct messages and compared dating them to leaving concerts with an unexpectedly long term relationship.

The monologue took another turn when Johnson praised her friends for supporting her choices. She then introduced Swift as her “literal therapist,” prompting Swift to immediately correct her.

“I’m not your therapist, actually,” Swift said before describing a humorous routine in which Johnson arrives at her home with wine, lies on her couch and shares personal details. Swift joked that she eventually gives Johnson Pedialyte before having her security drive her home.

Johnson responded with an enthusiastic “Sleepover, yay!” continuing the fictionalized account of their friendship.

The pair also joked that Johnson’s relationships with musicians amounted to a public service. Johnson claimed she was saving people money on Zoloft before naming the United States, England, parts of Ireland and Cleveland. Swift answered with a brief, deadpan “Allegedly.”

The cameo follows Swift and Johnson’s recent professional collaboration on the “Patient Zero” music video, which Swift directed and in which both appeared.

Swift also acknowledged Johnson’s birthday during the episode, with the celebration continuing during the goodnights when she brought out a birthday cake.

Johnson appeared in several other sketches throughout the episode, including “Press Your Luck,” “Mean, Scary Girlfriend” and “Guns for Women.” Turnstile served as the musical guest.
