The 68-year-old host was preparing for the morning weather forecast when “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head” by B.J. Thomas played. Scotto became visibly upset and explained that the song reminded her of her parents.
She apologized as she tried to regain her composure before continuing with the broadcast. Scotto then shifted her attention to the viewers who had reached out to her, thanking them for their texts, comments and messages.
Scotto later spoke directly to her followers through a video posted on Instagram. She said she was getting back to work because her mother would have wanted her to do so.
The broadcaster also acknowledged that she was still dealing with everything surrounding her mother’s death. Despite that, she said it was time to return to her normal responsibilities.
Scotto recalled how her mother responded when the family lost Scotto’s father. According to Scotto, Marion had the family return to their restaurant on the same night after her husband died.
That memory appeared to influence Scotto’s own approach to returning to work. She said she had already taken more time away than her mother would have allowed if she were still alive.
On X, Scotto also addressed viewers as she returned to the program. She described the experience as navigating life without her mother and expressed gratitude to everyone who had contacted her.
